The Dancing Dojo articulates our desire to bring earnest learning, skillful teaching, and FUN! to our endeavors to become physically healthy and energetically balanced.
Roberto has been dancing Argentine Tango since 2001 and teaching since 2013. Because Tango is such a refreshing change of pace from Salsa, Roberto brings a unique and excited energy to his Tango lessons. He has been dancing Salsa, including Salsa Rueda, since 1990 and teaching since 2000. He has taught in the SF Bay Area, Virginia, New York City, Mexico, Brazil, and now runs the Dancing Dojo studio in Eugene, Oregon.
Roberto is passionate about movement and dance, and shares his enthusiasm with his students. He prefers teaching beginners, emphasizing the fun aspect of learning to move your body in new ways. Because of his many movement and posture practices, Roberto gives his students more than just dance lessons - he incorporates posture awareness and physical well-being into his classes. Besides teaching you the basics to go out and improvise a tango dance on your own, Roberto's goal is to offer you fun ways to take care of your body and spirit.

Roberto Rodriguez is and has been a student in the martial arts for 35 years. He acquired his Black Belt In the Jaribu System ( composed of kick-boxing, Aki-jitsu, and Jaribu kata) when he was 16 years old. Since then, he has gone on to an in-depth study of Chen Family Tai Chi Chuan and Wing Chun Kung Fu as well as other supplemental art forms. While his approach to martial arts is primarily Taoist, he acknowledges, respects, and incorporates the external martial arts systems.

"The respect, focus, and skill of Roberto far exceeds 90 percent of the scores of teachers I’ve encountered. It's been a privilege to take lessons from this extraordinary man. And a bonus to get to do so in his family home, and witness the love, joy and care among him and his wife and teenage daughter.
I am consistently buoyed by his playful, passionate curiosity in the interplay of body, mind and spirit. The learning is fun and integral with him, including learning from me! What an uplifting gift to my learning process. It's been studied that we learn more and easier when it's enjoyable... I have learned so much in such a short time with Roberto. His classes are the highlight of my day and week. Starting my day with a class with Roberto, means that even if I started in a challenging place, I'm guaranteed to walk into my day with more of an attitude of joy, curiosity and creativity."

Testimonials
"I've been studying Tai Chi with Roberto for a few months now. He is an excellent teacher. Not only is he extremely well-versed in all aspects of Tai Chi, but he is able to break down the component parts in a manner that make them immediately accessible. Roberto is both "serious", in that he deeply respects the craft, the form, and the lineage, but also light-hearted, in that he sees learning as a joyful and playful endeavor.
I strongly recommend the Dancing Dojo's Tai Chi instruction, especially for a beginner who wants to form a great foundation from the very start!"

" I began taking tango with Roberto as a total newbie to this dance form as well as partner dance in general. I have so enjoyed our 2x/weekly classes! I think he is flexible with listening to the energy of the day, going over basics, posture, and warm-up before going into dancing. I experience lots of patience, laughter as well as challenge - a perfect balance in my eyes. My skills continue to improve and I've been enjoying this art form greatly. I look forward to my classes with Roberto, and I enjoy his humble, playful personality and approach very much. I feel confident as a well-rounded tango dancer, as we've covered different styles, so I'll be able to dance with a variety of other partners."
